Buying Guide

Header Panel Assembly Buying Guide

Body panels and structural components range from cosmetic sheet metal to safety-critical structural members. This guide covers everything from quarter panels and rocker mouldings to complete rear clips, truck beds, and full vehicle frames. Knowing whether a part is cosmetic or structural determines both how you buy it and whether it's a DIY job.

A useful distinction when shopping:

  • Cosmetic / bolt-on panels — mouldings and other trim pieces. Damage is visible, replacement is often a DIY swap or simple body shop job.

  • Welded structural panels — quarter panels, B-pillars, roof assemblies, frames. These carry crash loads and require cutting welds and precise alignment. They are body shop / collision specialist work.

Buying the wrong category leads to overspending or unsafe repairs. When in doubt, have a body shop inspect before ordering structural parts.

Front End Assembly

The front end assembly is the complete structural and cosmetic nose section — the radiator core support, upper tie bar, hood latch support, and surrounding sheet metal as one unit. It is used in major front-end rebuilds. It does not include the hood, fenders, bumper, or headlights. When sourcing, verify that all mounting holes for the headlights, hood hinges, and bumper brackets are undamaged and match your vehicle's bolt pattern.

Header Panel Assembly

The header panel (also called the nose panel or upper tie bar panel) fills the space between the headlights at the top of the grille opening, tying the front bodywork together. Damage is typically cosmetic from minor front-end impacts. It is sold without the grille insert, headlights, or bumper cover. Match by part number — the header panel is specific to the headlight design and grille opening shape of your vehicle's generation.

Quarter Panel Assembly

The quarter panel assembly is the complete rear body panel on either side of the vehicle, spanning from the rear door opening rearward to the tail section. Replacement requires cutting welds — a body shop operation. It does not include the trunk lid/tailgate, tail lights, fuel filler door, or interior trim.

Quarter Repair Panel

A quarter repair panel is a partial-section patch panel that replaces just the lower or rear portion of a damaged quarter panel rather than the full assembly. It is more cost-effective for localized rust or damage. Used repair panels are uncommon; most are new aftermarket sheet metal.

Rocker Panel Moulding

The decorative rocker moulding attaches to the outer surface of the rocker panel via adhesive tape or clips and is purely cosmetic. Mounting hardware and adhesive are typically not included. Color-matched or body-color units require painting.

Tail Panel

The tail panel is the rear-most lower body panel beneath the trunk or liftgate opening, spanning between the rear quarter panels. It is typically replaced after rear impacts. Verify fitment by checking the contour and any integrated cut-outs for the exhaust or tow hitch. It does not include tail lights, the bumper cover, or the trunk lid/liftgate.

Tail Finish Panel

The tail finish panel is a trim or finishing panel applied over or alongside the tail panel, giving the rear lower body a polished appearance between the bumper and trunk. It is separate from the primary tail panel — lighting, bumper cover, and any chrome trim pieces are sold separately.

Roof Assembly

The roof assembly is the complete overhead body panel spanning from the windshield header to the rear window, including the roof skin and any integrated roof rails. Roof replacement is a major structural operation requiring precise alignment of the windshield and rear glass openings. Sunroof and non-sunroof roofs are not interchangeable. It does not include the headliner, sunroof panel, dome lights, or weatherstripping.

Rear Clip

The rear clip is the complete rear body structure of the vehicle, used in major rear-collision rebuilds. It is sourced by collision shops and professional restorers; replacement is a specialized weld-out operation. Glass, interior trim, and tail lighting transfer from the original vehicle.

B-Pillar (Center Pillar)

The B-pillar is the center structural pillar between the front and rear door openings — a critical safety component that houses seat belt anchors and provides rollover protection. B-pillar replacement is a specialized body shop operation requiring full weld-out. DIY replacement is not recommended due to the safety implications of improper welds. Interior trim panels, seat belt hardware, and weatherstripping are not included.

Cab Clip

A cab clip is the complete front half of a pickup truck cab from the firewall forward, including the windshield frame and front structure, used for major front-end structural rebuilds. These are sourced by professional restorers and collision shops; all mechanical components, glass, and doors transfer from the original vehicle.

Pickup Box (Truck Bed)

The pickup box is the complete cargo bed including the floor, sides, front wall, and inner fenders — but not the tailgate. Bed lengths vary (5.5', 6.5', 8') — confirm the length matches your cab/frame configuration. Inspect for rust along the floor edges and around the stake pockets. The trailer brake light wiring harness runs through the bed — confirm all harness grommets are intact.

Frame

The vehicle frame is the main structural backbone of body-on-frame trucks and SUVs, to which all mechanical components and the body mount. Frame replacement is the most extensive body/chassis repair possible. Confirm the frame matches your specific cab/bed length, wheelbase, and GVW rating — frames differ between light-duty and heavy-duty configurations. All suspension mounting points, body mount locations, and cross-member positions must align exactly.

ShopEarl.com is a network of American auto part suppliers - salvage yards, aftermarket vendors, and powertrain remanufacturers.

Our mission is to make finding the right auto part easy, affordable, and environmentally friendly by giving quality used parts a second life and keeping them out of landfills.

We use a comprehensive vehicle fitment database that matches parts to specific makes, models, years, and engine types.

For critical components like engines and transmissions, we also require VIN verification for your vehicle to ensure an exact match. The VIN (Vehicle Identification Number) contains specific information about your vehicle's configuration that helps identify the exact parts it needs.

If you're ever unsure about fitment, our team is available to help verify compatibility before you make a purchase.

ShopEarl.com accepts the following payment methods:

  • Major credit and debit cards, including Visa, MasterCard, and American Express
  • Affirm
  • Link
  • Apple Pay
  • Google Pay

All payment data is encrypted using TLS technology. We never see or store your full payment information—only a secure token provided by our processor to complete your purchase.

ShopEarl.com offers free shipping within the continental United States. Shipping times can vary depending on shipping methods, and ‘unbolted’ used parts typically ship a day faster than ‘yard’ parts that have to be professionally dismantled from the vehicle first. You’ll receive email and text notifications every step of the way.

Delivery to commercial locations is always free, but larger parts that ship freight may incur surcharges if they are delivered to a residential address. You can always ship these for free to a repair facility or our team can help find a nearby commercial address for local pickup.

At the moment, we don’t offer expedited shipping options. However, we’re always looking for ways to improve our services, and we hope to offer faster shipping options in the future.

All parts come with a minimum 30 day return window from the date your part arrives. See full return policy for all the details.

A core charge is a refundable fee charged when you buy a part that can be rebuilt or remanufactured, like an engine, alternator, or transmission. It works like a deposit:

  • You pay the core charge upfront when you buy the part.
  • After installing the new part, you return the old part (the “core”) to the seller.

This system encourages recycling and helps manufacturers refurbish used parts instead of making new ones from scratch.

Used parts are OEM auto parts professionally dismantled by certified auto recyclers.

Remanufactured parts are used OEM parts that have been completely disassembled, cleaned, and rebuilt with new components where necessary. They're tested to meet or exceed original equipment specifications, and often come with warranties similar to new parts.

New parts are new, aftermarket components that have never been installed on a vehicle.
